Malaybalay City – Malaybalay City Water District (MCWD), headed by General Manager Glenrose T. Ledesma in coordination with the Malaybalay City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), headed by Mr. Alan Comiso, conducted an Earthquake Drill and Disaster Risk Assessment on May 17, 2019 at the MCWD Training Hall.

The conduct of drill is a response to the mandate of the government pursuant to RA 10121, known as “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction Management Act of 2010” which provides for the development of plans and implementation of actions and measures pertaining to all aspects of disaster risk reduction and management.

During the drill, the MCWD employees took part in performing the Earthquake Drill in their respective posts with the assistance of the Malaybalay CDRRMO in order to gauge the capacity of MCWD in responding to possible calamities and disasters that will arise. Likewise, Mr. Arian Johnson Caga-anan, one of the personnel from Malaybalay CDRRMO, delivered a brief introduction on how earthquakes occur and how to be prepared to efficiently manage all types of emergencies.

Further, the Disaster Risk Assessment was conducted with the MCWD Disaster Risk Reduction Committee together with the Malaybalay CDRRMO in order to identify, analyze potential hazards, evaluate risks and determine control measures to prevent, mitigate and control exposure to health and safety risks associated with hazards in the workplace.

The MCWD promotes the development of capacities in disaster management through systematic efforts to analyze and manage causal factors of disasters and encourages its employees to be abreast of disaster risk reduction management in order to effectively perform their duties and functions in delivering an efficient service as a public utility which provides water as one of the basic needs of human survival.
