Malaybalay City – The Save Water and Green Areas (SAWAGA) Movement, Inc. in support to the National Greening Program (NGP) of the government conducted a tree planting activity on June 15, 2016 at Sitio Tagalolo, Brgy. Can-ayan headed by SAWAGA President Virgilio R. Hoy, Sr.
The official and members of the SAWAGA Movement, Inc. undertook the tree planting of coffee seedlings in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources headed by Forester Arif Emam to represent CENRO Virgilio Alima of this city.
This activity was participated by the volunteers of the different organizations including the Malaybalay City Water District (MCWD) headed by GM Juanito C. Aroa, City Mayor’s Office and officials and employees of the different barangays of the City of Malaybalay.
Part of the group also monitored and assessed the survival growth of the coffee seedlings which were earlier planted in the area in order to reach the organization’s target of planting 20,000 coffee seedlings.
This activity is envisioned to help address the problem on climate change and promote the government’s massive forest rehabilitation program.
GM Jun Aroa of Malaybalay City Water District being an active member of the SAWAGA Movement, Inc. encouraged members and volunteers that this activity was done to instill environmental awareness and promote conservation of our natural resources to address issues on climate change and forest depletion that will benefit the future generation.
